Aidan maintains a general litigation practice with a focus on commercial and energy disputes, injunctions, class actions, administrative law, defence procurement, and constitutional law.

He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also run trials before the British Columbia Provincial Court and Manitoba Court of King’s Bench.

Aidan was on the Dean’s List throughout law school and graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta in 2021. He received various awards during law school, including the Mandy MacLeod Prize for Excellence in Mooting, the Joseph Paul Bromlik Scholarship for Excellence in Advocacy, the Rhonda Zacharias Memorial Award, and the Criminal Trial Lawyers Award in Evidence.

While in law school, Aidan participated and placed in various moots, interned with the Court of Appeal of Alberta and the Office of the Judge Advocate General, and ran criminal trials as a dayleader with Student Legal Services.

Aidan summered and articled at BLG before joining the firm as an associate.

Experience

  • Reference re Impact Assessment Act, 2023 SCC 23 – represented an intervenor in a reference regarding the constitutionality of the Federal Impact Assessment Act.
  • Christie v Canada (Attorney General), 2024 FC 1722 – successful in a judicial review application brought by a retired member of the RCMP regarding a benefits decision issued by the Veterans Review and Appeal Board.
  • Pelletier v Canada (Attorney General), 2024 FC 1669 – successful in a judicial review application brought by a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces regarding a benefits decision issued by the Veterans Review and Appeal Board.
  • Bordeaux Developments Corporation v Hu, 2023 ABKB 44 – obtained a mandatory injunction requiring the removal of various defamatory publications, and subsequently, summary judgment and enhanced costs.
  • Prairiesky Royalty Ltd v Yangarra Resources Ltd, 2023 ABKB 11 – successful in a trial regarding whether a gross overriding royalty was an interest in land that was binding upon a subsequent holder of a working interest in a Crown Lease.
  • Obtained an ex parte Mareva injunction against a former employee of an energy company.
  • Successful in a trial before the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench related to negligent services performed by a contractor.
  • Successful in a default trial before the Provincial Court of British Columbia related to a breach of contract and negligent services performed by a contractor.
  • Obtained summary judgment and solicitor and own client costs in relation to non-compliance with a Restrictive Covenant.
  • Advised an international defence contractor with respect to import/export sanctions.
  • Advised an international defence contractor with respect to Canadian procurement practices.
