Waterloo Regional Health Network acquires future hospital site from University of Waterloo

Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) completed its acquisition of vacant land from the University of Waterloo, securing the site for a new acute care hospital for Waterloo Region.

The site, adjacent to the University of Waterloo's North Campus near the David Johnston Research + Technology Park, has been publicly identified as the future home of Waterloo Region's new hospital. The location is intended to strengthen connections between healthcare delivery, research, education, and innovation, and to support Waterloo Region's long-term growth and evolving care needs. The province reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the project in July 2025 with a $10 million grant to support planning the new hospital.

BLG's role as WRHN's counsel included a competitive procurement for site selection, negotiation of the purchase agreement, and other definitive agreements, and the legal work required to bring the acquisition to completion and position the project for next steps.

BLG represented WRHN with a team led by Brennan Carroll and Courtney L. Po that included Ryma Nasrallah and Kasim Salim as well as a number of other lawyers, paraprofessionals and members of the business services team.
