Andrew practices commercial real estate and development law, providing legal services to a large cross section of clients. He provides practical, efficient and timely advice to his clients for all types of commercial real estate transactions, including purchases, sales, leasing, joint venture and development arrangements and financings.

Andrew has particular expertise working with development lands, data centres, oil refinery lands, logging lands and mixed-use developments. Andrew also works closely with lenders and public and quasi-public clients, including various hospitals, colleges and municipalities. Projects for these clients include the design, build, financing, operation and maintenance of privately-managed facilities. 

Experience

  • Counsel to KDDI Canada, Inc. on the C$1.35 billion acquisition of three data centres in Toronto from Allied Properties REIT.
  • Counsel to BMO Life Assurance Company of multiple portfolio acquisitions, including, the C$110 million acquisition of three industrial properties in Ontario.
  • Counsel to Petro-Canada Lubricants on various real estate matters, including, the built-to-suit lubricant manufacturing and warehouse facility in Edmonton.
  • Counsel to Westbank in respect on the C$1.4 billion construction financing of the Sen̓áḵw development in Kitsilano.
  • Counsel to Group Mach Acquisition Inc. in respect of real estate matters in its acquisition of approximately C$ 1.5 billion of retail and office properties as a part of the broader acquisition of Cominar Real Estate Investment Trust pursuant to a plan of arrangement by a consortium led by Canderel Real Estate Property Inc. and the acquisition of Cominar's industrial properties by Blackstone.
  • Counsel to HF Sinclair Corporation with respect to its sale of vacant land in Mississauga for C$125 million.
  • Counsel to The Forestland Group on the C$75 million disposition of logging lands in Algoma and the C$30 million disposition of logging lands in Bancroft.
  • Counsel to Mohawk College on various real estate matters, including, the built-to-suit airport hangar and training facility in Hamilton.
  • Counsel to K+S Aktiengesellschaft in respect of real estate matters on the US$3.2 billion sale of its Canadian salt assets to Stone Canyon Industries Holdings LLC, Mark Demetree and Partners, including the iconic Windsor Salt mine in Windsor, Ontario.
  • Counsel to Northview Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust in respect of real estate matters on its $4.9 billion sale by plan of arrangement to Starlight Investments and KingSett Capital.
  • Counsel to Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment in respect of real estate matters in the acquisition of Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, and related matters.
  • Counsel to Epiroc Canada Holding Inc., a subsidiary of Epiroc Rock Drills AB, in respect of real estate matters in its acquisition of 100% of MineRP Holdings Inc. from Dundee Precious Metals Inc..
  • Counsel to Trillium Health Partners with respect to the purchase of vacant lands in Mississauga developed into long-term care and hospice use.
  • Counsel to Muskoka Brewery with respect to a lease negotiation and significant upgrade of its home brewery in Bracebridge, Ontario.
