Anna advocates for health care clients and their staff in complex civil claims and administrative matters.

Anna provides advice on a wide range of health law-related issues, including:

  • uninsured/private health services
  • disclosure obligations
  • the release of personal health information to third parties
  • regulatory college proceedings and litigation
  • legal issues relating to telehealth

Anna has acted as lead counsel before all levels of courts in Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada, and has appeared before administrative tribunals, including:

  • Coroner’s Inquests
  • the Health Professionals Appeal and Review Board (on physician privileging disputes and regulatory college appeals)
  • regulatory colleges
  • the Consent and Capacity Board

Experience

  • Advocates for hospitals, public and private health care clinics, pharmaceutical clients, municipalities, and health care providers in medical malpractice and other civil litigation, including class actions.
  • Assists health care clients with review and drafting of policies and guidelines and advises on regulatory compliance.
  • Acted for intervenor at SCC in Armstrong v. Ward, 2021
  • Successfully represented a hospital respond to an application for judicial review related to its COVID-19 visitor's policy 2020 ONSC 2335 (CanLII; Div Court).
  • Successfully represented a hospital at a jury trial arising from a stroke Doobay v. Fu, 2019.
  • Successfully represented a hospital and its nursing staff at a jury trial arising from postoperative infections Sacks v. Ross, 2015; lead counsel at Court of Appeal (appeal dismissed; leave to SCC denied) Sacks v. Ross, 2017 ONCA 773 (CanLII) — 2017-10-05.
