As national co-leader of BLG’s Privacy team, Frédéric advises the firm’s clients on all aspects of data protection compliance. He regularly assists private and public companies with the implementation of compliance programs and workplace monitoring initiatives, adoption of new technologies, rollout of marketing programs and management of AI risks. He also advises clients with regard to the legal stakes of cross-border data flows, conducting of privacy impact assessments and responding to privacy breaches.

With a decade of litigation experience, Frédéric represents clients in administrative investigations, responses to complaints and judicial reviews. He helps clients of all industries, including the financial and fintech fields.

Prior to joining BLG, Frédéric served as a senior privacy counsel at a major Canadian financial institution. In this role, he was in charge of privacy incident management and contributed to the implementation of a vast privacy compliance program.

Before that, he practised commercial litigation for eight years at an international law firm, specializing in class action and consumer law. He has represented major corporations before all Québec courts, the Federal Court and in arbitration proceedings.

Experience

  • Advised a major financial institution on the implementation of a privacy compliance program.
  • Supervised privacy incident management for a prominent financial institution.
  • Defended a financial institution before the Federal Court regarding an access request under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
  • Represented various financial and academic institutions before the Commission d’accès à l’information.
