Jordan specializes in energy and utilities regulation. His practice focuses on utility rate regulation and tariff matters, regulatory approvals and facility applications, market regulation, and environmental matters. He works across a spectrum of sectors including electrical transmission and distribution, power generation, energy storage, pipelines, oil and gas, carbon capture, geothermal, and emerging technologies related to the energy transition.

Jordan brings a depth of experience in all facets of the energy industry, especially in Alberta and at the federal level. He has represented clients before energy regulators in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and federally; before the courts in Alberta and British Columbia; and has extensive appellate experience in energy-regulatory matters, including before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Jordan also provides regulatory advice in the context of commercial transactions and project development, particularly with respect to public utilities (electricity, gas, water), pipelines, and renewable generation (solar, wind, hydro). He also helps proponents of emerging technologies in the energy space to navigate the constantly-evolving regulatory and commercial environments.

Jordan provides legal services through a Law Corporation.

  • Saamis Solar Park Ltd. in respect of the approval of a 350-MW solar farm within the municipal boundaries of the City of Medicine Hat, Alberta
  • Berkshire Hathaway Energy Canada in its indirect share purchase acquisition of the Montana Alberta Tie-Line from Enbridge Inc. for an approximate purchase price of $200 million.
  • EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. in respect of the approval of the $50-million West Edmonton Transmission Upgrade Project
  • EPCOR Water Services Inc. in respect of the approval of the kīsikāw pīsim solar farm and battery storage facility in the City of Edmonton
  • Numerous utility clients in tariff applications and other rate-related proceedings
  • Several power producers and utilities in respect of the development of district heating systems in Alberta and British Columbia
  • Developers of pumped-storage facilities, in respect of the regulation of their technologies in Alberta
  • Two international energy companies in respect of acquisitions of solar plants in Alberta
  • A power producer in respect of an acquisition of solar and wind generation facilities in Alberta
  • Two international energy companies in respect of investments in solar, wind and electric transmission projects in Alberta and Ontario
  • Alberta's Market Surveillance Administrator in respect of the (aborted) implementation of a capacity market for electricity generation in Alberta
