As a member of the Securities and Capital Markets Group, Ivona assists investment industry participants with the design, formation, management, operation and distribution of different types of investment products.
In particular, Ivona advises asset management companies, securities dealers, advisors, investment fund managers and portfolio managers on matters ranging from securities registration, regulatory compliance and fund governance to sales practices, trading, communications and marketing issues. She also represents clients in exemptive relief applications, compliance audits, investigations and enforcement proceedings before securities regulators.
Ivona also helps clients establish and document relationships with other parties such as trustees, custodians, distributors, prime brokers and transfer agents, by negotiating and drafting appropriate agreements.
A keen learner and strategic thinker, Ivona seeks to understand her clients’ business environment, operations, needs and goals in order to provide tailored and effective advice. Fluent in English, Spanish and Romanian, Ivona can connect with clients in all three languages. She is also able to review documentation in French.
With a passion for the law in both its academic and practical aspects, Ivona maintains an interest in a variety of other areas, such as antitrust, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial litigation. Prior to joining BLG, Ivona worked in the enforcement department of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, completed a research project on merger control in Mexico, and worked as an interpreter for the Romanian gymnastics team at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
